The lower falls looks pretty good today. 11 feet of stage and 4 feet of dam being released.

We'll keep an eye out for the boats. Sucks to have 1 stolen but Clay was triple played. This seems to happen a lot - best to lock 'em up.

Matt Hagan's Yellow Detonator Canoe was stolen last December. Lot's of stickers and front thwart gone. Keep an eye out for that puppy too:

Cumberland Below Falls

I am looking to go to Cumberland Below the Falls this weekend. Anyone want to head down that way? It's running at 1100-1200cfs which is a great level for playboating.

I need to keep the drive short and CBF sounds tempting.

Nantahala River, August 14-15

I hope that everyone has (or had, depending upon when you read this) a great time at the VCC picnic. If you just didn't get enough of the Nantahala River, the Vikings are headed back there on August 14-15. Camping is at Tumbling Waters Campground (http://www.tumblingwaters.com/). I've reserved the "front" group site for the Vikings. It's in my name (Dan Molnar). This campground is near the river, quiet, clean, and you get free breakfast biscuits. How great is that?

Those who lodge elsewhere can meet us at the National Forest Service public put-in at 10:30 AM on Saturday. It's at the intersection of US 19/74 and Wayah Road.

For those unfamiliar with the Nantahala River, the AWA web site is at http://www.americanwhitewater.org/conte ... l/id/1101/. It's class II-III. The two largest rapids, Pattons Run and Nantahala Falls, are easily portaged if that's your choice. There are plenty of play spots for those who like to surf and plenty of rapids for those who enjoy river running.

Please post a note if you're coming. FYI, I will be on the road and without computer access for the next week. If you have any questions, I'll respond ASAP but it may take a few days.

Since we put safety first, here's your Nantahala River safety briefing. (1) The water is cold, even in the summer. Bring insulating river clothes and do not wear cotton. If you do not have a cold weather top, post a note here and we'll find one for you. (2) The greatest danger on the river is from foot entrapment. It has been the cause of several fatalities. This happens when a person in fast moving white water tries to stand up and catches their foot in a crack, crevice, or under a rock. If facing downstream, it can snap the shin, or hyperextend the knee. If facing upstream, the water will push you back and hold you under the surface until you drown. Do not stand up in the Nantahala River unless the water is below your knees. (3) Watch out for unguided duckies and rafts, which create floating undercuts. (4) In an area on the river known as "the ledges," a conspicious sign warns of an undercut boulder. Pay attention to the sign and stay away from the boulder. It was the site of a fatality in 2003.

his boats WERE stolen and are STILL gone.

long story short...

In what became a joke that soured and went too far i put a post on the Lexington Craigslist pretending to be the retarded kayak thief of said boats as retaliation for a derogatory faceboof status update that a mutual friend secretly posted on my account from my computer.

I figured Clay would end up calling mutual friend target and that would be it. Well, it didn't play out thus.
I made the post in a moment of questionable juvenile judgment of which i am not, nor ever will be, immune to.

As Clay has said on the BWA forum, "poor form".
He's right. My bad and i apologize. Didn't intend to screw-up his day so royally.

I'm gonna make the club grub on Sat with any sous (sue?) chefs that want to contribute. Looking to liven up Sandman's batch of spaghetti with some antipasto, and hope to lift the lid on a dutch oven full of berry cobbler. Feel free to bring other side dish items (even non italian) . If we really get our act together, a salad may hit the table as well.

If you want to work on your roll skills in nice clean clear water, let me know, I have a 18 x 36 pool in back yard that works great. Give me a call if you want to try. I have a wavesport Z with xlarge skirt if you need to borrow a boat.

Dear Mr. President ( Sandman , fellow Vikings )

In case you didn't know , the state of Tenn. , division of solid waste management has decided to issue the permit for the landfill ( near Bear creek and Oneida Tenn.). Got a copy of the responses in mail yesterday as a result of a letter I wrote
in opposition to the landfill suggested by Richard M.

Additionally , the dept . of environment and conservation has posted the comments on the following web site
