November 08 Meeting Minutes

Meeting Minutes Nov 2008:

There was a very small turnout for this meeting, and as the election is traditionally held in the November meeting, we were forced to make some votes for people who didn't show, but had expressed possible interest in certain positions. So, as best as we were able to decide, this is how the vote was concluded:

Election Results:
President: Brian Sandman
Vice President: John Albright
Secretary: Jason Russo
Treasurer: Darrin Hines
Executive Board: Todd Schindler (pending his acceptance)
Jess Albright
David Ackerman (pending his acceptance)

In addition, we discussed the following agendas Monday night:

Pool Sessions:
Shawnee reserved for next Tuesday 7-9pm. John Albright to inquire as to future reservations at this time.

Ironman:
AW reports that they received only $1000 so far from the Ironman group.

Equipment:
Club motioned to purchase a shredder (catamaran style raft). Estimated cost to be around $1600. Final vote to be made in December meeting. Come if you want a voice in deciding this!

Dinner Party:
Discussions revolved around continuing the traditional boat raffle sponsored by CanoeKY. Darrin also mentioned that he would talk to Mark Singleton of AW about obtaining a dry-suit to raffle at the dinner party (possibly some costs involved, with the expectation that the raffle tickets would pay it off).

Raft Rules:
Darrin wished to propose new raft rules to encourage its use. Stated that he would put a post of his recommendations to be voted in December meeting.
Class III water; class V shuttle.

After reading John's post, and going back, it does appear we had some folks willing to be on the board. Maybe I should have had a list with me at the meeting....

Well, anyway, let's re-do the board elections next meeting, just to make sure we get those that really want to serve on the board.

The only other issue is someone nominated Greg Miller as secretary, but I wasn't sure if he accepted. We elected Ruchi again, but if Greg did accept the nomination, we could re-do that as well. Ruchi may be happy to turn it over. :D But, I'm happy with whatever. All our folks are great, so we can't go wrong with anyone in this club. Well, except for Turbo. And Tobin.

Lastly, we owe a huge thank you to Donna Sloan for covering the Treasury duties for so long. She did a great job and she will be missed. However, I'm going to join them next year for some Harley rides!

Can I double as Safety Chair and executive committee ? I'm trying to stack as many non responsibility roles on to my resume as possible :P

Team Sloan will be missed from the board.

I still have not heard from Ironman, maybe it's time to get somewhat aggressive and threaten to strike. :?

I never officially acknowledged I'd accept. I wasn't going to decline either, but a bout of food poisoning kept me from the meeting Monday.

It's The Viking Canoe Club...

Maybe the president should have to be a canoer.

Seems cruel... but...

I'm not counting Sandman out yet because I am clearly a crustier older white dude who does paddle. There is a new improved Sandman coming out soon, stay tuned for details.

well biggb, u got sexism confused with racism...but to continue the race issue, maybe you got the chirp chirps cause you didn't call out the all half-african-american paddlers :P .... no wait... that was a joke too.

I only hear chirps in response to john's comment about my nomination. i'm a girl, i have no voice in this administration!!!! The vikings are not ready for such evolution of power. maybe when i am older, wiser....crustier and a better paddler. for now i'll stick to being a smart ass.
